Ark Journal – where quality meets ambition
When Ark Journal was launched, the ambition was clear: to create an international magazine that both inspires and lasts. A publication that doesn't follow trends, but defines its own expression. For founder and Editor in Chief Mette Barfod, it was essential to find a print partner who shared that vision. Multiply became that partner – and together, we've built a collaboration where quality, relationship and possibility are the foundation.

Background
Ark Journal was born from a simple insight: the world was missing a magazine that intertwined the best of design, architecture and art – not as separate disciplines, but as a coherent whole. Mette and her team saw a growing audience that didn't want to choose between interiors, architecture or culture, but wanted to immerse themselves in all of it. Eight years later, the magazine is sold in more than 38 countries, becoming an international platform reaching far beyond print.
Today, Ark Journal works with exhibitions, global events and collaborations with design and lifestyle brands. But the magazine remains the heart – a physical object meant to be read slowly, appreciated and kept. A design object as much as a publication.
In a time when many media houses struggle, and digital consumption dominates, Ark Journal has gone against the grain. They've proven there is a longing for the tactile, the lasting and the exquisitely made. But achieving that requires a print partner capable of delivering exceptional quality, issue after issue.
Crafted through collaboration
When Ark Journal began searching for a print partner, their requirements were clear: exceptional quality, close dialogue and deep expertise in paper, imagery and colour. The team visited Multiply even before producing the very first issue – a meeting that marked a turning point.
What started as a traditional print assignment has evolved into an ongoing creative partnership. When Mette and her art director evaluate paper, formats and expression, they do so in close dialogue with Multiply’s specialists. It’s a balance between aesthetics and practicality: the magazine must feel exclusive in the hand and still withstand global distribution.
Ark Journal has gained a partner who doesn't just produce a magazine – but understands its soul.
Perfection through process
The printing process is meticulous. Ark Journal often uses multiple paper stocks within the same issue to elevate photo series, essays and reportage. And at every print start, the editorial team is present – often after long nights of final colour adjustments. The magazine lives on shelves and tables for six months; every detail must be perfect.
Multiply supports them through the entire chain: prepress, colour management, printing, binding and distribution. When challenges arise – as they inevitably do in such a complex production – the right people are there to solve them, quickly and confidently. This trust gives Ark Journal the freedom to evolve its expression, explore new materials and test new ideas.
"What makes Multiply special is the people. Knowledgeable, committed, professional – and wonderful to work with. They understand our DNA, our passion for quality and our constant desire to make each issue the very best it can be."
